CSWAFC does not currently train students other than those sponsored by China Southern Airlines.

CSA aviation cadets are pre-selected at high school and then, after the successful completion of University entrance examinations, they are enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering, at a University selected by China Southern Airlines. Students must also complete an IELTS examination and gain a score of 5.5 overall, with a minimum of 5 for Speaking to apply to train in Australia.
After studying for 18 months to 2 years, students are interviewed, tested, and screened at their respective university campuses in China by staff from CSWAFC. If selected, students will also undergo medical screening by a recognised CAAC doctor. Students must meet all Visa requirements to come to Australia and if successful, they will be granted a Visa for 2 years. CSWAFC anticipates, however, that students will complete the flying training course in a much shorter time frame, after which students will return to China to their university to complete their degree.

CSWAFC will notify successful candidates through CSA that they have been accepted and they will be issued a Course intake number which determines their start date.
Upon arrival into Australia, students are required to undergo another medical test by a recognised Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME).
